Recently Techdurt said Google map is removed from Wikipedia’s mobile apps. Instead of that it added another open source map named “Open Street”.
Source said somewhere OpenStreetMap can provide even more information than Google map. Moreover there isn’t any single organization working for it. Mainly it has been popular by the contributions of volunteers in open source. Still a renowned organization like Wikipedia using Open Street instead of Google map for their mobile apps is a surprising thing indeed!
Techdurt wrote Open Street may become a big competitor for Google map soon as it has been started using in various apps.
