What is machine-readable
passport (MRP):
Recently MRP has been launched in Bangladesh; it reduces the
harassment of public in the airport. According
to the rules of international civil aviation organization (ICAO), MRP and visa
must be launched from this April. MRP looks like the typical passport. The only
difference is that, the computer system of the airport can read the information
of the passport. Though it is must to have MRP from this April, the typical
passport got their validity until 2015.
From where to apply:
You can apply from internet. You have to go the passport
office only for giving your handprint. Online application can be done from any
country. The address is following-
Ways to apply in
Bangladesh:
You can collect the forms from the website of Department of
Immigration and passports (www.dip.gov.bd).
No payment is needed. You have to download the form, print it, and fill it by
writting. You are not allowed to fill it up by typing. You can get the forms
from the office of Dhaka and 10 other local offices. The local offices are in
the following places-
- Dhaka- Dhaka, manikganj, munshiganj, narshingdi, gajipur and narayanganj distric.
- Maymanshingh- mymanshingh, tangail, jamalpur, sherpur, netrokona and kishorganj district.
- Chittagong- Chittagong, rangamati, khagrachari, bandorban and coxs’ bazaar district.
- kumilla- kumilla, chandpur, noyakhali, laksmipur, feni and brahmanbariya district.
- Shylet- shylet, sunamganj, moulavibajar and habiganj district.
- Rajshahi- rajshahi, chapainobabganj, nouga, nator, shirajganj, pabna, joypurhat and bagura district.
- Barishal- barishal, potuakhali, borguna, vola, pirojpur and jhalkathi district.
- Rangpur- rangpur, dinajpur, panchagor, thakurgaon, nilfamari, kurigram, lalmonirhat and gaibandha district.
- Jessor- jessor, jhinaidhah, kustia, meherpur, chuadanga, magura, norail, Khulna, bagerhat, and satkhira district.

the application form:
Applicant has to provide name, parent’s name, their
occupation, nationality, birthplace, birth date, birth certificate no., no. of
national identity card, present and permanent address. He has to attach a
passport size photo and have to attest the form.
Cost:
The fees have to submit on any branch of Bangladesh sonali
bank. Tk 3000 will be charged for normal passport, and tk 6000 will be charged
for emergency passport.
Procedure of
submission:
The in charge officer will verify the application and then
sign it with a seal. Then will have to submit the form in a specific place.
There are several booths in the passport office. You can submit it there. The
person who is in charge will entry your information and gives you a token. After
that, you have to take his token and application to another officer for photo. The
photo will be the same size as your national ID card. Moreover, you have to
give your figure prints on the electronic machine. Then you have to give
electronic signature. After that, the authority will accept your application
and give you a document. You will be informed about the date of collecting the
passport. You can collect the passport
on the given date. But police verification must be completed within this time.
About the MRP:
It has known that, the MRP is made in the form of the modern
passport of other countries. Special cover made by clothes is used in the MRP.
It consists the number of national ID card. There is some special symbolic
number on the passport. It is called the machine-readable area. All the
information of the applicant is in this area.
