What is breast cancer?
The term “breast cancer” refers to a malignant tumor that has
developed from cells in the breast. It is an unrestrained growth of breast
cells.
There are two types of cancer:
- Benign
- Malignant
Benign: benign tumors are not dangerous to health. They don’t spread
to other parts of the body. It isn’t cause of death.
Malignant:Malignant tumors are cancerous. In the long run they can
spread beyond the original tumor to other parts of the body.
Women attacked by breast cancer in
Bangladesh:
Sixteen percent of the total cancer
affected women in the country are victim to breast cancer, says a World Health Organization(WHO) study. According to the latest WHO data published in April 2011 Breast
Cancer Deaths in Bangladesh reached 8,396 or 0.88% of total deaths.
The gruesomeness of breast cancer:
- Mid aged women die more for this disease.
- At least 1 in every 10 women can be affected by breast cancer.
- One person is detected in every 2 minutes.
- & one person dies in every 14 minutes attacked by breast cancer.
Symptoms of breast cancer:
- An abnormal growth of all or part of the breast.
- Lump in the under arm area.
- Redness, thickening of the nipple or breast skin area
- Breast pain or nipple pain.
- Nipple turning inner side.
- Nipple discharge other than breast milk.
- Skin irritation.
Women who are in more risk:
- Whose menstruation began in early twelve or before than that.
- If anyone doesn’t have her menopause even after fifty
- Having first child after thirty.
- If someone's blood relative risk of bast cancer than is the case.
- Too much smoking / drinking increases the risk of breast cancer.
How to reduce your risk:
- By controlling weight.
- By limiting alcohol.
- Breast-feeding.
- Being physically active.
- Avoiding excessive environmental pollution
Treatment:
- Radiation therapy
- Chemotherapy
- Targeted therapy
- Hormone therapy
- Surgery
